Why This Matters

A More Complete Approach to Falls Risk and Movement Confidence
Falls risk is rarely caused by one factor alone.
Changes in walking pattern, foot function, balance, strength, confidence andmobility can all play a role. Yet many falls pathways focus on only one part ofthe picture.
Our Falls Assessment Clinic has been developed to offer a more integratedapproach, beginning with a podiatry-led assessment of gait, foot function andmovement, then connecting patients into a broader coordinated care pathway where appropriate.
  • Gait

    Walking pattern analysis
How you move is central to understanding your fallsrisk.
  • Foot

    Foot function assessment
Foot mechanics and footwear are often overlookedfactors in stability.
  • Care

    Coordinated care pathway
Connected to local allied health providers for whole-person support.

What Makes This Different

A Falls Clinic
With A Difference
A podiatry-led clinic shaped by real patient need.
"This clinic was developed in response to what we werealready observing in practice."
Through our work with patients on The Sunshine Coast and Brisbane over thelast 40 years, we saw the importance that gait, foot function and movementcan play in supporting stability.
This, combined with seeing a need from our patients for a more holistic andcoordinated approach to balance, mobility and wellbeing as they age, led to uscreating the first podiatry-led falls assessment clinic on the Sunshine Coast.

Collaborative Care

Built in Partnership
With Local Providers
The Falls Assessment Clinic is being developed in collaboration with a networkof local providers on the Sunshine Coast.
This model allows patients to access a more coordinated approach to care, bringing together podiatry-led assessment with complementary services thatsupport strength, balance, movement and confidence.

FAQs

Falls Assessment Clinic FAQs
  • What is a falls risk assessment clinic?

A falls risk assessment clinic is designed to identify factors that may increase your risk of falling.
This includes looking at how you walk, your balance, foot function, strength, confidence and overall movement.
Our clinic takes a podiatry-led approach, focusing on how your feet and walking pattern contribute to stability, while connecting you into a broader care pathway where needed.
  • What happens during a falls assessment?

Your assessment begins with a podiatrist who will:
    • discuss your history, concerns and goals
    • assess how you walk and move
    • review foot function, footwear and mechanics
    • identify factors that may be contributing to instability
From there, we guide you on the most appropriate next steps.
  • Will I need to see other health professionals?

    Not always.
Based on your assessment, we may recommend additional support if it is appropriate for you.
This could include other allied health or movement-based services within our clinic network.
Any recommendations are tailored to your individual needs.
  • Do I need a referral to attend the clinic?

    No referral is required.
You can register your interest directly and our team will guide you through the next steps when the clinic opens.
  • Is this clinic only for older adults?

    Not necessarily.
While falls risk often increases with age, changes in balance, movement or confidence can affect people at different stages of life.
If you’re concerned about your stability or walking, an assessment may still be beneficial.
  • Who should consider a falls assessment?

You may benefit from an assessment if you:
    • have had a fall or near fall
    • feel unsteady when walking
    • notice changes in your balance or confidence
    • have foot pain or changes in walking pattern
    • are becoming less active due to fear of falling
Even if you’re unsure, an assessment can help provide clarity.
  • How is this different from other falls prevention programs?

Many falls programs focus primarily on strength or balance.
Our clinic starts with a podiatry-led assessment of gait and foot function, which are often overlooked contributors to falls risk.
We then connect you into a more coordinated care pathway where appropriate, rather than addressing just one aspect in isolation.
  • Can orthotics help reduce falls risk?

In some cases, they may form part of your management plan.
If foot function or mechanics are contributing to instability, orthotic support may be considered.
This is always based on your assessment and whether it is appropriate for you.
  • How long does the assessment take?

Assessment times can vary depending on your needs.
We allow enough time to understand your concerns, assess your movement and provide clear guidance on next steps.
  • Where is the Falls Assessment Clinic located?

The clinic will be based in our Maroochydore location on the Sunshine Coast.
You can register your interest now to be notified when appointments become available.
